Panther Prowl May

MAY NEWSLETTER

Dear Century Community:

This week we enter our final month of the 23-24 school year. This year has been full of many celebrations, and some challenges. May is full of events such as Prom and the Senior Walk at Middle School and Elementary Schools, along with AP Testing.

I hope this year has been as positive an experience for you and your student(s) as it has been for us.  We are very honored to have been entrusted with the education of your children.

As we look forward to the 24-25 school year, I would ask that those who are interested, consider establishing a PTSA to provide opportunities for parents to be actively involved in the life of the school.

Response to Bridge Incident:

This message went out from the Superintendent last week regarding the RPS response that will be taking place this week in our secondary schools, as well as some elementary grades:

A couple of weekends ago, a racial slur was placed on the pedestrian bridge by Century High School. Because the event occurred in our community and near one of our schools, Rochester Public Schools leadership believes it is imperative that we respond.

Between today and Friday, May 3, all of our secondary students will be participating in a conversation in their advisory or classes about this event and how it is unacceptable to use a racial slur. Staff will be leading these discussions based on these guidelines. Superintendent Dr. Kent Pekel also created this video for staff to watch ahead of their discussions. Elementary schools will adapt these guidelines to be more age-appropriate for their students.

Century staff will be facilitating these conversations this Thursday, May 2nd during an extended 2nd period
